Get AI-powered advice on this job and more exclusive features.

Summary: We’re a remote team working on FIEFDOM, a multiplayer medieval slasher title for PC and consoles. We recently had a Kickstarter campaign, which yielded an amount enough to focus on a vertical slice for publishers & other partners; but not an amount to comfortably expand at market rates – as a result all of us have either revenue share and/or company equity to compensate.

Magic and by extension VFX is a core component of FIEFDOM’s gameplay. With the technicals close to being finalized for our magic spells, it’s now time to onboard an artist to start creating its necessary assets: unique models & textures where applicable; flipbooks; niagara systems & emitters.

Other, more typical VFX assets (footstep material VFX, sparks, blood) will also be part of your domain.

All levels of experience and professional qualifications. If this is your first time in VFX, if you’re pivoting from another game dev area, don’t worry – do apply!

The job is flex-time. By default it’s part-time or less (>10h/week). If you want to work on the side for a historically very successful genre, while pairing it with your current responsibilities – then this might be the fit for you.

Job Description:

Your work will revolve around creating the necessary assets and the in-engine niagara systems and emitters for FIEFDOM’s magic spells and general VFX.

You will be given timings, descriptions, spell concept art, visual references from other games. Our style is realistic, not cartoony or heavily stylized. Our 3D art lead and our technical director are there to assist you.

You will work with our 3D lead and/or tech artist to define the specifications of your assets, particularly in regards to spawning of meshes and material shader effects, which can be tied to gameplay for added effect.

Your suggestions as an artist will always be welcome; both on the design, and on the asset workflows used to reach what is everyone’s highest priority: a fun and exciting game!

Job Responsibilities:

Authoring and configuring Niagara systems and emitters within Unreal Engine

Modeling and texturing PBR meshes wherever applicable

Material authoring with Substance Designer

Follow artistic and technical guidelines created by the project’s management team.

Job Requirements:

Understanding of Niagara

Basic understanding of Unreal Engine

Strong ability in industry software for each of the steps of the PBR pipeline (poly modeling, sculpting, retopology, UV unwrapping, material authoring and mesh painting)

B2 equivalent or higher in spoken and written English (no certificate required)

10 hours a week or more of availability.

Nice-to-haves:

Interest and knowledge of medieval European history.

Experience as 2D artist in any field.

Experience as tech artist.

Qualities we look for:

Initiative: the will to understand how what you create all comes together in the final product, and to make your own suggestions for the sake of improvement.

Reliability: if you agree to a deadline, make it happen! If the deadline was unrealistic or uncertain to begin with, point it out.

Drive: we deeply value those that have the drive to improve their work and their value.

Qualities we offer:

Growth potential: we intend to build on our successes. We want to grow our juniors into seniors with apt leadership and challenges for you to overcome at each stage of your career.

Flexibility: we do not demand specific work hours on certain work days, only that weekly or monthly workloads are performed.

Involvement: your opinion and insight, from your work to the playtesting of our project, is crucial and valued – good games don’t happen without evaluating all inputs.

Compensation:

Revenue share model: royalties on the net revenue of FIEFDOM.

Company equity: shares of White Tower Games.

Monetary compensation: currently, if needed, this can be offered only in addition to the above, compensating for a below market rate. This will change once we close a round or sign a publishing agreement; for which a great vertical is crucial!

About us:

We’re a startup company headquartered in Poland, with a worldwide team of juniors, intermediates and seniors alike. By joining us, you will be part of a team creating games with world-first features for many to enjoy, bringing familiarity and novelty together in the right balance to many genres.

Most of us are in the CET timezone – don’t let that prevent you from not applying.

Send us your portfolio, your CV, and/or any examples of your past work to jobs@whitetower.games

In no case will we utilize your data for any end that is strictly not related to assessing your capabilities and the on-boarding procedure.
