[Remote] Intellectual Property Lawyer

Legal.io is a leading global airline seeking an experienced Intellectual Property Counsel to support its in-house legal team on a part-time contract basis. The role focuses on a broad range of IP matters, including commercial transactions, patent strategy, and copyright issues, supporting innovation initiatives across a worldwide enterprise. Responsibilities • Advise on a wide variety of global IP matters, including commercial, licensing, patent, and copyright issues • Provide practical, business-focused IP counseling to internal stakeholders across multiple functions • Draft and negotiate commercial agreements with IP and technology components, collaborating closely with commercial counsel on software, consulting, and services agreements • Support the identification of patentable innovations and work directly with inventors to pursue patent protection • Manage and maintain domestic and international patent portfolios • Assist in developing and executing IP strategies aligned with company innovation and business objectives Skills • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school • Active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar (no specific jurisdiction required) • Minimum 7+ years of legal experience, with intellectual property as a primary practice area • Strong background in IP issues within commercial transactions • Experience identifying patentable inventions and managing patent portfolios • Ability to deliver clear, pragmatic legal guidance to business partners • Comfort working independently in a remote, part-time capacity • Strong collaboration skills across legal, technical, and commercial teams • Prior in-house and law firm experience strongly preferred Benefits • Flexible, part-time schedule with long-term visibility • Exposure to global innovation initiatives within a major transportation organization • Senior-level, strategic IP work without full-time in-house constraints Company Overview • Legal.io is the enterprise marketplace for legal talent and tools.
