Professional Sports - Scheduling Lead

About the position Fastbreak AI is the leader in sports league scheduling. We power the most complex calendars in sport for many of the world’s biggest leagues. Our team blends advanced optimization with hands-on league expertise to deliver schedules that improve fairness, reduce travel, and unlock media value. We’re hiring a Professional Sports Scheduling Lead to partner with professional league customers from the first brief to the final fixture list. You will become an expert user of Fastbreak Pro Schedule , and will design and run optimization scenarios, tune constraints and objectives, analyze tradeoffs and guide league executives through each stage of the annual scheduling process. Responsibilities • Own the end-to-end build of pro sports schedules and be the bridge between leagues and our AI platform. • Take each season from discovery to delivery, capturing requirements, configuring models, iterating scenarios, and delivering schedules that meet the highest bars for fairness, feasibility, and media value. • Be the primary contact for league executives, ops directors, and competition committees. • Capture and document rules, preferences, and historical considerations from multiple stakeholders and groups. • Translate sport-specific policies and competitive standards into clear technical requirements. • Configure and operate Fastbreak Pro Schedule to produce high-quality schedules. • Evaluate outputs using fairness metrics, travel and rest equity, venue availability, and broadcast needs. • Iterate scenarios, balancing quantitative results with stakeholder feedback. • Ensure full compliance with league rules and operational constraints. • Partner with Product teams and Engineering to improve scheduling tools based on real-world use. • Work with AI & Data Science teams to refine optimization models, constraint logic, and fairness algorithms. • Document learnings and feed them back into the platform. • Onboard and train customers adopting Fastbreak solutions. • Present scenarios and trade-off analyses to stakeholders and executives. • Deliver concise reports on methodology, constraint management, and competitive impact. Requirements • 2–5 years of experience in sports operations, sports scheduling, league management, data analysis, or related areas. • 2+ years of experience in a consulting and/or client-facing role. • BA or BS in Operations Research, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Sports Management or similar. • Deep understanding of scheduling dynamics in professional or high-level amateur sports (travel, venue availability, competitive balance, broadcast windows, etc.). • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills • The ability to think in terms of constraints, optimization, and trade-offs. • Excellent communication and presentation abilities, including explaining complex scheduling logic to non-technical stakeholders. • Comfort working with different technologies, data dashboards, and previous experience with other scheduling or optimization software. Nice-to-haves • Experience working directly with professional sports leagues (NBA, WNBA, NHL, MLS, NWSL, MLB, NFL, international federations, etc.) or large collegiate conferences. • Familiarity with optimization, scheduling algorithms, or data modeling concepts. • Ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders simultaneously.
