Mortgage Compliance Officer

This is a remote position and we're accepting applications from anywhere in the U.S. We also have an optional office in Austin you can use if you live here or come visit. About the opportunity The Homeward Mortgage Team is responsible for conducting the financial review and approval of every customer that works with Homeward. We’re focused on bringing financial innovations to life and delivering a seamlessly integrated mortgage experience. We are looking for subject matter experts and business people with an entrepreneur's mindset who will combine their expertise with a willingness to think outside the box to come up with new solutions. This is the first role of its kind at Homeward. You will have the opportunity to design and implement a mortgage compliance program for a rapidly growing company who is changing the way the residential real estate industry does business. You will report to the VP of Legal and will work closely with the VP of Mortgage Lending. Responsibilities will include: • Develop and maintain Homeward Mortgage’s compliance management system (CMS) • Build and refine company policies and procedures related to mortgage compliance • Design and implement training and communications programs for the mortgage team and for other Homeward entities to guide employees on how to adhere to federal and state mortgage laws • Collaborate with our product, engineering, operations, and marketing departments to ensure our products and marketing campaigns comply with applicable federal and state laws • Serve as a resource for mortgage regulatory matters and compliance-related initiatives • Design, implement and manage monitoring programs to determine the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls • Manage state, federal and other counterparty compliance examinations • Assist in-house counsel and other compliance teams with ad hoc research and projects • Manage outside licensing firm with respect to all mortgage licensing matters What you’ll need to have: • A deep understanding of mortgage loan origination and related industry regulations, concepts, practices, procedures, and documentation. • 5+ years experience managing compliance for a retail mortgage lending operation • Experience developing and maintaining a compliance management system (CMS) for a retail mortgage lending operation, including policy development and change management • Strong working knowledge of RESPA (Reg X), TILA (Reg Z), ECOA, HMDA (Reg C), FACTA, FDCPA, FCRA, GLB, and other federal and state laws and regulations applicable to mortgage lenders • Experience managing state, federal & agency compliance examinations • Ability to effectively communicate with other departments and senior management • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high production environment • The drive to build something new that will change the real estate industry Homeward Values Golden Rule “Treat others how you want to be treated.” We’re building our company culture and customer experience with this as the guiding principle.
