Job Description: The Database Engineer will be responsible for monitoring and supporting Enterprise Database (EDB) operations to ensure reliable, accurate, and efficient data services that support eligibility and enrollment workflows. This role focuses on database performance monitoring, query analysis, indexing, and storage management within Oracle-based environments. The Data Engineer will work closely with senior database engineers, application teams, and operations staff to maintain data availability, integrity, and performance. Requirements: • U.S Citizenship required. • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance • This position is remote but may require occasional onsite meetings in McLean, VA. • You can be based out of following states: AZ, DC, FL, GA, OH, ME, MD, SC, TX, UT, VA, NC, OK, WV. Qualifications and Experience: • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Engineering, or a related field. • At least 7 years of experience in data engineering, database operations, or a related role. • Experience working with Oracle databases in operational or performance-focused roles. • Working knowledge of SQL and basic PL/SQL. • Experience reviewing SQL execution plans and supporting query optimization efforts. • Familiarity with indexing strategies and database performance concepts. • Experience monitoring database storage and capacity. • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. • Attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy and reliability. • Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. • Ability to manage multiple priorities and escalate issues appropriately. Responsibilities Database Monitoring and Operations Support: • Monitor EDB database performance, availability, and storage utilization using Oracle tools. • Identify performance issues related to queries, indexes, and database configuration. Query and Index Optimization Support: • Analyze SQL execution plans and query behavior to identify tuning opportunities. • Assist with index creation, maintenance, and optimization to support eligibility and enrollment workloads. Data Integrity and Reliability: • Support data integrity checks and validation routines to ensure accurate and consistent data operations. • Assist in monitoring and resolving data-related issues impacting downstream systems. Storage and Capacity Management: • Monitor database growth, tablespace utilization, and storage trends. • Support capacity planning and storage optimization activities. Collaboration and Escalation: • Work with senior database engineers to investigate and resolve performance or availability issues. • Collaborate with application and integration teams to understand workload patterns and data usage. Documentation and Operational Readiness: • Document monitoring procedures, findings, and remediation steps. • Support development and maintenance of operational runbooks and standard operating procedures. Continuous Improvement: • Identify recurring performance or operational issues and propose improvements. • Stay current with Oracle database features, tools, and best practices relevant to performance monitoring.
