Controller, Specialized Product Accounting Internship Program

Join M&T Bank as a Specialized Accounting Intern to gain hands-on experience in complex accounting within the banking industry and support financial reporting and controls. Your Role Here’s what you will be doing: • Assist in compiling and analyzing the performance of banking products and services • Participate in specialized accounting projects on an ad-hoc basis • Support the preparation of technical memos and accounting position papers • Assemble reconciliations of financial data and supporting schedules to the general ledger • Monitor accounting standard updates and assist in evaluating their impact on specialized areas • Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., Treasury, Risk, Financial Reporting) to ensure accurate and compliant accounting treatment • Complete duties and responsibilities of an entry-level professional nature specific to assigned specialized accounting areas • Ensure activities adhere to established internal policies and external regulations as applicable • Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite • Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management • Design, implement, maintain and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis • Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points and issues raised by external regulators • Complete other related duties as assigned About You The company is looking for: • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 • Strong written and verbal communication skills • Demonstrated computer skills • Strong organizational skills and detail-oriented • Work Visa Sponsorship not offered for this role Compensation & Benefits • Pay range: $18.00 - $28.00 per hour, based on knowledge, skills, and experience • Pay rate specific to location within this range Training & Development Interns complete a 10-week program focused on professional development, career growth, and skill-building, with exposure to other departments through guest speakers and industry leaders.
