Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled, detail-oriented CNC Machinist to join our high-precision aerospace manufacturing team on 2nd shift. This role is responsible for supporting the production of critical aerospace components by operating multiple CNC and/or conventional machining centers while adhering to strict quality, safety, and process control standards.
The ideal candidate brings hands-on machining experience, strong blueprint interpretation skills, and a disciplined approach to precision manufacturing. This position plays a direct role in lean manufacturing initiatives, productivity improvement, and continuous quality enhancement within a collaborative, team-based aerospace environment.
Key Responsibilities
CNC Machine Operation & Production
- Operate two or more CNC and/or conventional production machines in accordance with engineering drawings, blueprints, sketches, and route sheets.
- Set up and run production machines where materials, tooling, and machining sequences are pre-planned and established.
- Perform machining operations including cutting, shaping, drilling, reaming, forming, and part rework as required.
- Execute secondary machining operations such as tapping, spot-facing, chamfering, countersinking, and counterboring to close tolerances.
- Make routine machine adjustments to maintain part quality and immediately report improper machine function or cutting conditions for corrective action.
Quality Inspection & Measurement
- Inspect machined components for conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments including gauges, calipers, micrometers, and comparators.
- Utilize magnification equipment to identify surface defects, burrs, or damage in critical or cosmetic areas.
- Conduct detailed visual inspections to ensure parts are free from burrs, tool marks, or surface irregularities prior to release.
Deburring & Finishing
- Remove burrs, sharp edges, tool marks, and other irregularities from machined parts, ranging from simple to moderately complex production components.
- Ensure all finished parts meet aerospace workmanship, dimensional, and cosmetic standards.
Process Control & Equipment Maintenance
- Accurately perform and document Statistical Process Control (SPC) activities per division requirements.
- Conduct routine equipment maintenance to ensure machine cleanliness, accuracy, and operational reliability.
- Maintain tools, fixtures, and workstations in a clean, organized, and FOD-free condition.
Lean Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement
- Actively participate in lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, waste reduction, and cost control.
- Identify opportunities for process optimization and provide constructive improvement suggestions.
- Apply lean tools and principles within the work area to support operational excellence.
Safety & Compliance
- Strictly follow all company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
- Maintain a clean, orderly, and compliant work environment consistent with aerospace manufacturing standards.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned to support production and business objectives.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
- High School Diploma or GED (Required)
Experience
- Minimum 2+ years of related machining experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Experience operating CNC and/or conventional machining equipment in a production setting.
Technical Skills & Machining Expertise
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, route sheets, specifications, and verbal instructions.
- Working knowledge of machine shop mathematics, including basic trigonometry.
- Experience performing in-process inspections using precision measurement tools.
- Familiarity with machining processes, tooling, fixtures, and production documentation.
Advanced CNC Capability (Highly Desired):
- Demonstrated hands-on proficiency operating, setting up, troubleshooting, and optimizing: Multi-axis CNC lathes, Mill-turn centers & High-precision turning equipment
- Experience working in aerospace or high-tolerance manufacturing environments.
- Exposure to or experience with industry-leading CNC machine platforms such as: Mazak (Yamazaki Mazak), DMG Mori, Okuma, Nakamura-Tome, Doosan / DN Solutions, Haas Automation, Tsugami, Citizen (Miyano), Star Micronics, Index / Traub or similar high-precision CNC systems
