Building & Planning Coordinator
The primary point of contact between the Village of Pemberton and the building community, this role provides a variety of support services to the Development Services team as well as external stakeholders including developers, homeowners, builders, contractors and consultants.
Responsibilities:
- Administers the processing of building permits from initial application to final occupancy
- Supports the scheduling and organization of building permit inspections
- Acknowledges enquires regarding building and land use permit applications, zoning or bylaws
- Responds and provides data to external agencies regarding planning or building enquires
- Supports requests regarding the creation and registration of civic addresses
- Receives building permit applications, drawings and submissions
- Researches and drafts bylaws, covenants, agreements and RFPs
- Tracks outstanding covenants and easements
- Liaises with legal to perform covenant and easement registrations
- Submits data and permit reports to BC Housing, BC Assessment and Statistics Canada
- Writes and administers Bylaw Notification Enforcement Tickets
- Supports with the issuance of stop work orders
- Trains internal and external users on the Village permit software application
- Administers and issues Site Alteration Permits to the Director, Development, Planning & Climate Action
- Writes and prepares Comfort Letters
- Audits data within and supports with changes and administration of the GIS system
- Coordinates public outreach and other engagement activities
- Designs notices and signs for the Development Services team
- Prepares content for the Development Services webpage and ensure information presented is up to date
- Produces a monthly newsletter for the building community
- Coordinates and issues bulletins for building community
- Processes and takes payment of permit application fees
- Researches grant funding opportunities
- Provides general assistance, answering calls, scheduling meetings, appointments and inspections
- Coordinates Advisory Design Review Commission, Advisory Land Use Commission and Board of Variance meetings, prepare agendas and record minutes
- Maintains building and development files as per the Village’s records management system
- Drafts correspondence on behalf of the Director, Development, Planning & Climate Action
- Performs other duties as assigned
Skills and Experience:
- Desire to learn and develop specialized knowledge
- Ability to multitask and manage multiple concurrent deadlines
- High attention to detail; ability to proofread, interpret rules, regulations etc
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Communicates in a tactful manner and able to diffuse situations
- Ability to interpret and translate technical information
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders
- Proficient with computers and able to navigate systems and software
- Experience working within a construction/building industry an asset
Emergency Operations:
Anyone actively employed by the Village of Pemberton may be required to assist the Village in providing emergency services. Duties assigned during an emergency situation may differ from regular duties.
